Filter Types

Our water filters are available in many different variants, each with its own function and purpose. Some are optimized for filtering well water, others for the effective removal of PFAS substances, and others again for eliminating limescale or bacteria such as E. coli.

Choosing the right filter can seem a bit overwhelming, but with the information below you should be better equipped to select the filter that’s right for you. You are also very welcome to contact us for a talk about the best solution for you.

Water from the public supply without discoloration

If you — like most people — receive water from your local waterworks and do not experience discoloration or visible impurities in your water, you can use either a single-stage or multi-stage filter without a pre-filter.

A pre-filter is used to protect the main cartridge from dirt, but it is not necessary if the water already appears clean and clear.

Single-stage filters

All our single-stage filters use a coconut-based activated carbon block cartridge with a high carbon content.

Coconut-based activated carbon block filtration provides both the best tasting drinking water and a very high level of purification — without loss of healthy minerals, without noticeable pressure drop, and without any water waste as all water is utilized.

Single-stage systems have the advantage of taking up very little space, being easy and quick to install, allowing for fast cartridge replacement, and being inexpensive to operate.

They can filter between 5,000 and 36,000 liters of water per cartridge and can be combined with ultrafiltration for effective bacteria removal.

Single-stage filters are a good all-round solution that provide reliable filtration of pesticides, heavy metals, microplastics, PFAS types such as PFOA, PFNA, and PFOS — as well as more than 100 other potential impurities.

Multi-Stage Filters

With a multi-stage solution, you gain the advantage of being able to optimize the filter to local conditions and design the setup according to personal preferences and filtration requirements.

This can be relevant when using old water pipes or similar situations, where a dedicated pre-filter can protect the main cartridge from dirt and debris and ensure that it performs optimally throughout its entire lifespan.

A 2-stage solution also makes it possible to combine two activated carbon blocks, which doubles both the contact time and the surface area the water passes through, thereby increasing filtration efficiency. This means, among other things, even higher PFAS filtration.

In our multi-stage solutions, you will also find our anti-scale filters which – in addition to high water filtration – offer effective reduction of limescale and limescale deposits. Last but not least, all solutions can be combined with an ultramembrane against bacteria such as E. coli and Legionella.

The combination of multiple carbon blocks, with or without an ultramembrane, provides the highest possible level of filtration – without losing the healthy and important minerals.

Under sink or whole house?

If you live in a villa or home where you have access to the main water coming into the building you have the option to filter all the water in your home. This gives you the advantage that not only is the water filtered in your kitchen, but also in your bathroom, shower, for washing machine, dishwasher etc. This option is normally only available for private villas.

Water from the Public Supply with Discoloration

If the water from the public supply — which should normally appear clean — is discolored or contains visible dirt, this is often due to the condition of the local water pipes.

This may be caused by pipes that are generally worn out or even leaking, allowing foreign particles to enter the water.

In addition to the potential health risks this poses, it also means that your water filter is exposed to an unusually high amount of particles in the water, which can shorten the lifespan of the filter cartridge.

In such cases, you should choose a solution that combines a pre-filter — to protect the main cartridge — with an efficient carbon block filter that removes heavy metals and other potential impurities.

Water from a Private Well or Rainwater

Water from a private well or rainwater may potentially contain the same impurities as groundwater, as well as bacteria such as E. coli and a higher amount of particles and debris.

Therefore, you should choose at least a two-stage filter with a pre-filter, and if there is risk of bacteria in the water, you should combine it with an ultramembrane cartridge against E. coli and legionella.

Reverse Osmosis Filtration

Reverse osmosis uses coconut-based activated carbon block filtration combined with granular carbon and a membrane with a pore size of 0.0001 µm.

This combination provides the most effective filtration available today, making it possible to remove even short-chain PFAS substances such as TFA, PFBS, and PFBA.

Reverse osmosis filters impurities with an efficiency of up to 99.9% and effectively removes pesticides, all types of PFAS, limescale, viruses, nitrate, nitrite, fluoride, and much more.

Reverse osmosis is a more expensive and complex system to install. However, once the system is in place, maintenance is just as simple as with our other under-sink solutions, and future filter replacements are quick and easy to perform.

People with Weakened Immune Systems

If you have a weakened immune system, bacteria in the water should normally be avoided. For extra-high water filtration, we offer several solutions that all use an ultrafiltration membrane or osmosis membrane, ensuring that all bacteria are effectively removed.

This applies to all our Ultra models, as well as our Blackline RO system.
